Shopping a la Mexicali

For me, nothing beats shopping a la Mexicali. Whenever I spend some time south of the border in Baja California, I make it a point to spend a few blissful days in Mexicali, most of which are spent out of reach of the boiling outdoor sun and inside Mexicali's cool and comfortable malls. Mexicali, being just a hop away from San Diego, California with just the international border in between them, is a favorite shopping destination for Californians in search of bargains and unique shopping items. There are several malls in Mexicali and numerous shopping districts and stores but there are three very popular Mexicali shopping malls which I like very much for different reasons.


Plaza La Cachanilla
All hands down, the Plaza La Cachinilla Mexicali is sure to be the largest shopping mall there is to be found in the entire municipality of Mexicali. This humongous, modern construction seems out of place in a city where old Spanish missions and bullfighting arenas aplenty are situated. However, it offers a temptingly cool and lively haven to those who dislike the hot weather of Mexican outdoors.

Inside the Plaza La Cachanilla, there are rows upon rows of popular stores of clothes, furniture, shoes, toys, electronics and other items along side stores selling unique objects, most of which can only be bought in Mexicali. Whether you feel like buying a brand new set of designer bikinis for the beach or a case of local tequila concoctions, Plaza La Cachanilla is the shopping mall to be.

Plaza Catavina
This Mexicali shopping mall on the otherhand, is the haunt of the young and beautiful. With its state-of-the-art fitness center which is flocked by many health buffs and fitness fanatics, you are bound to see plenty of athletic, fit-looking people, both young and old, coming to the Plaza Catavina Mexicali.

After you have burned off the excess weight and toned your arm muscles at the gym, you can then try shopping for the latest clothes, shoes, bags, and jewelry in the many shops found all over this Mexicali mall. You can even buy the newest and trendiest iPods, mobile phones, laptops and other electronic items in the electronic stores found in Plaza Catavina.

Plaza Mundo Divertido
Fun recreational activities and facilities are what Plaza Mundo Divertido is popular for. Whether you feel like window shopping, watching a movie, dining out or going bowling, Plaza Mundo Divertido is sure to have something that would appease your every whimsy. This Mexicali mall creates a fiesta-like feel due to its lively and entertaining atmosphere.
