Bargains

Admit it. You cross the border to go bargain shopping. Well, there really is nothing wrong with that because believe it or not, more than 10 million American citizens do just the same every year. If you are one of those people who appreciate the value of hard-earned cash and would like to save some of that money for other things, then you should definitely consider crossing the border every once in a while to go shopping in beautiful Baja California, Mexico.

If United States is the Land of the Free, then its neighboring country of Mexico is the Land of the Bargains. Baja California is a peninsula located at the westernmost regions of Mexico, directly south of San Diego, California which makes it incredibly near cities such as Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco.

In fact, if you are coming from San Diego, you can take a 5-10 minute trolley down town which would take you directly to the international border crossing point where you can get your permit to entire the city for a day or less than a week without a Mexican Visa. That way, you don't need to go through all the hassles of getting a Mexican visa but still be able to enter and shop in Baja California legally.

And what do you think you'll find once you already are in Baja California? Lots and lots of bargains, that's for sure. Baja California shopping is famed for its variety. You can find anything from clothes, leather good, silver jewelry, fruit preserves, wines and spirits, furniture, books, shoes and anything else under the sun in this bargain shopper's island paradise. Practical items like prescription drugs and clothes, to not so practical ones like artworks and souvenirs, can all be bought in markets, bazaars, malls, street shops, curio stores, shopping districts and street side vendors found in almost every city and town in Baja California.

But the most important factor is not the variety, but the price. You can find items sold in Baja California that are 10 to 75% cheaper than the exact same item sold in a mall in Los Angeles or San Diego. Fine and authentic silver jewelry pieces and figurines which Mexican are known for for instance, are sold for just a fraction of the price that designer boutiques, retail stores and shopping malls in the United States that sell them offer.

Not only are the prices extremely low, but many markets, bazaars and stores in Baja California also offer haggling so that you can drive the price even lower. Of course, designer stores and shops in malls would have fixed prices but if you drive by Avenida Revolucion in Tijuana or in the Tourist Corridor of Los Cabos, you would find numerous stores that allow customers to test their haggling skills.

So if you are looking for a good bargain, a wide variety of options and a wonderful time, then what are you waiting for? The Baja California bargain shopping experience is waiting for you just south of the border!
