Tijuana Border Mass Wedding on Valentine
Tijuana Border Mass Wedding on Valentine
Mexican migrants working in the United States celebrated the recent Valentine's Day by attending a mass wedding held along the Tijuana-San Diego International Border. According to Reuters, more than 600 couples participated in the said mass wedding, many of whom are Mexican nationals who are working and/or living in the United States without proper documents.
They further reported that many of the mass wedding participants are Mexican migrants who met in the United States during their period of working without legal papers. Since not having the proper documents including birth certificates, US visas and other such papers, these Mexican migrants who have found romantic partners cannot legally get married in the United States. Thus, the Border Mass Wedding was started several years ago in order to give migrants an opportunity to marry.
